Richard Osman's The Thursday Murder Club

For a debut novel this is superb. It's witty, clever, sad, funny and an overall pleasure to read. I read it over a span of two days because I could not put it down.

The novel is set around an usual concept for a murder mystery tale as it is set in a care home where a group of 4 over 80, borderline alcholics who every Thursday evening pass the time solving old cases. They're an odd group of friends who include a nurse, a former outspoken trade unionist, a psychiatrist and a woman who has seen it all so we can only guess she is a spy (I reckon she's all talk and was actually a foreign corespondent or something, but it is never confirmed).

One day a murder happens of someone they knew at the care home and after befriending the local DI and DC they get to work solving the case alongside the police all with great enthusiasm and fueled by vodka and lemon drizzle cake and a lovely red wine from M&S.

This story is honestly worth reading and will get you laughing all the way. There are significant twist and turns, dark secrets and shocking confessions all presented joyfully.

This is the first book review I have written that wasn't written over 50 years ago or I studdied it for my degree. This was a book recomended to me by my mum and I thought I'd review it so I can inspire you to read this book worthy of the hype it recieved.

This is psychological thriller with more twists and turns than expected. Although I found the ending to be rather rushed and not thought...
