Daniel Cole's Ragdoll

This is a truly chilling thriller which begins by thrusting the reader into a dingy London flat where at its centre is a body made up of multiple parts of other people. This gory induction paired with a detective who is trying to get his life on track makes for an explosive tale which is utterly original. Cole’s originality stems from the idea to make a case within a case since Scotland Yard have to both identify the body parts of the ‘ragdoll’ but also prevent the death of the next victims of this calculated killer before the time runs out.

This novel follows the struggles of the disgraced detective William Fawkes (‘Wolf’) who has to solve the case while also batting with his inner demons and urges which almost cost him his job before. These murders all link to Wolf in away following a previous case which causes emotions to be heightened and the pressure to be felt.

This striking and original thriller is utterly surprising at every turn. Cole manages to create something that has never been seen before, while also identifying the stresses of being a detective in a high-profile case and keeping their cool whilst the media scrutinise every move they make.

Overall this is a shocking and brilliant novel which evokes a plethora of emotions and ideas.
